Description of Organization:

Yad Leah is a volunteer based organization whose staff and supporters share a collective dream of alleviating poverty in over 30 communities throughout Israel. By collecting new and gently used clothing in the United States, Yad Leah provides upwards of $4 million dollars worth of new and lightly used clothing, bringing warmth and joy to thousands of people. Yad Leah sorts, packs and ships the clothing that it collects to Israel, where it is sold to Israel’s neediest at a fraction of its true value in a store-like environment. By providing families with an opportunity to shop for affordable clothing, Yad Leah treats its customers with the dignity that is due all human beings.

Bnai Mitzvah Projects or Volunteer Opportunities offered by the organization for children ages 11 - 13:

The Pack-for-Israel Experience is Yad Leas’s flagship Volunteer Program. It is a 90 minute experience where the participants have an opportunity to sort and pack clothing for needy families in Israel. It includes a tour and a discussion, as well as instructions how to pack and an opportunity to design cards, write letters and decorate the boxes. It is a great multi-generational event, as well as a nice way to bond with friends, family and neighbors. Working together on a chesed activity to make a difference is a wonderful way to celebrate a special event, such as a Bat Mitzvah with family and friends. The program is designed to be a multi generational event where Bat Mitzvah age girls can work together alongside their peers as well as with parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins.
