Background: Since 2007, Areyvut’s Jewish Teen Philanthropy programs have engaged more than 250 participants, allocated $49,700 to over 30 non-profits. We have run these programs at JCC’s, Jewish Day Schools and synagogues. We are pleased to now launch a new pop up Jewish Teen Philanthropy program Chesed Begins at Home which will be offered over four sessions to teens home during the summer.
Chesed Begins at Home: The program is for incoming 8th and 9th graders and needs a minimum of 8 people to run.
Participants will work as a Teen Board to determine community needs, develop a mission and ultimately allocate those funds. They will impact each other, the community and learn and develop skills that encourage them to give thoughtfully throughout their lives.
Session 1: Introduction to Philanthropy, Area of Focus & Mission Statement, Create & Send RFP
During this initial session, participants will participate in group exercises to foster unity and team building. Participants will be introduced to philanthropy and will work together to determine their area of focus and to craft a Mission Statement that guide their work and giving. The group will conclude this session by learning what a Request for Proposal (RFP) is, creating one to be sent to local Bergen County agencies in their area of interest.
Future Sessions: The remaining sessions of the program will meet on Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 on July 31, August 7 and 14.
Fee: $200, $100 will go towards the pool to allocate funds and $100 to cover Areyvut’s expenses in running and bringing this program to fruition.
The fee will be administered when the program begins.
We do not want money to be a barrier to participation. If your child wants to participate and the $200 poses a challenge please contact us at 201-244-6702 or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will work with you to make sure your child can participate.
Our Host: We are grateful to the Young Israel of Teaneck for their hospitality, ongoing support and partnership.
