Israelis In North American Summer Camps

Posted on April 5, 2013

I just read an article which declared that 1,100 Israelis have been chosen to come to Jewish North American summer camps in order to strengthen the bond the campers have with their Judaism and Jewish homeland.  This is a very exciting initiative and I’m glad that Israelis are allowed to choose this as an option for the year before they go to the army.  Our American children and teenagers can benefit from meeting Israeli role models who are close in age but who they can look up to and learn from.  Camp is a great place to learn new skills both socially and physically and having a diverse group of staff especially Israelis who can incorporate new songs and culture just by being present is a very strong way of encouraging our children to learn more about their Jewish roots and to strengthen their connection with the land of Israel.  Kol hakavod to all involved and b’hatzlacha!
