The $150 million $ synagogue

Posted on February 14, 2013

I love synagogues!  They are often a hub in the community and a place that people of all ages and movements go for guidance, services, classes and much more.  Even with the world and the way many Jews practice their Judaism changing, the synagogue continues to play a prominent role, as it should.  I like nice things and synagogues just as much as the next person but spending $150 million on a “facelift” seems a bit excessive to me.  I do not question the need to repair the synagogue, the incredible work Wilshire Boulevard Temple Temple has done over the years or the motivation of the donor.  I just think that $150 million is a lot to spend on a synagogue and that one can do a great deal for the Jewish community with that amount of money.
