This article is an important one in the debate on free Jewish education. Dr. Jonathan Marvis states three important points: 1) Education is a platform and not a product, 2) Free education is a basic civic right, and 3) Education is a social responsibility. He makes a great point in saying, “A major argument that has been advanced is the questionable value of free products. This argument, I believe, categorizes Jewish education as a product while it should be viewed as a platform.” He makes mention of Taglit (Birthright) and other free programs for Jews that have been very successful and life-changing for many. I highly recommend reading this article and remembering the importance of our children and of the future of our family the Jewish people when talking about the prospect of free Jewish education.
