Sports, Clowns and Lots of Fun for the New Year

Posted on September 15, 2010

We’re not even one week into 5771, and yet, Areyvut has been hard at work creating fun and meaningful programs for the new year. Don’t get me wrong…5770 was good to us. It brought Areyvut our greatest group of interns to date (sorry to all other interns, but this group rocked…there’s no getting around it), it had us get involved with Mitzvah Clowning (our newest chesed initiative) and it had us complete the first ever Jewish Teen Philanthropy program in a day school in Bergen County. All in all…5770, wasn’t a bad year…but now, we’re forging ahead, and for the time being, we’re focused on two projects.

The first event is a great way for people to contribute to Areyvut without feeling any extra strain on their bank account. That’s right, for all you basketball fans out there (and who isn’t?) Areyvut invites you to join us at the Prudential Center on Oct. 3 at 7pm. Come watch as the NJ Nets take on the Maccabi Haifa. Tickets are being sold at discounted prices, for as low as $10! I know what you’re thinking…you want to go to the game and support Areyvut at the same time…your wish has been granted! Click here to purchase your tickets and enter special offer code: nets. Just like that a portion of the proceeds from each ticket you purchase will go to support Areyvut! Talk about a win-win!

All you Midwesterners, I know what you’re thinking…I can’t go to the Nets vs Maccabi Haifa game, but I still want to be involved with Areyvut. Again, we’re here to help. Areyvut, will be leading a Mitzvah Clown Program in the Twin Cities, run by one of our awesome interns, Mollie Feldman. The program is scheduled to begin with a Mitzvah Clown training on Oct. 3 (I wonder if it’s a coincidence that it’s on the same day as the game?) and run through May, with monthly visits to senior care facilities. We’ll provide you with the costume, clown make-up, balloons and training and you provide us with the support needed to make this program a go (otherwise known as the admission fee of $180). Mitzvah Clowning (as we’ve said so many times before) is truly the gift that keeps on giving and we hope you will get involved. Click here for more information.

We hope you start 5771 off right – get involved, be active and have fun!
