Students of Change the world. It just takes cents
February 2011
Ariane Guiot, Gabi Fabrikant, Liana Brown,
Molly Auerbach & Adina Kalantarov
Ariane, Gabi, Liana, Molly and Adina represent some of the students involved with "Change the world. It just takes cents". The students participating in this program have learned about the genocide in Darfur, held their 5th annual anti-genocide Forum for schools in the Denver area, participated in political activism calls, texts, letters, emails, postcards and visited with politicos, activists, leaders of NGO's, city lay leadership, clergy, educators and refugees. Student participants have included local and national schools in their activism. Additionally, they have sold Israeli candles as well as originally designed Darfur apparel as fundraisers. This semester alone, the group has already raised $2,000. The students in this program have been able to raise enough money to fund the building of a Day Care Center in Israel for seventy 3-4 and 5 year old refugees. This is a lifelong program that the students plan on staying involved with indefinitely.

Best thing about giving back to the community: "A sense of accomplishment. Feeling good about giving without the expectation to get anything in return. Volunteering selflessly. Making an impact on the community. Representing our people positively through 'chesed' and 'avodah'. Having fun. It feels cool to be international. Raising hope of refugees and letting them know they are not alone."
