Alexandra Kukoff

Alexandra is a 12 year old student in the 7th grade at Medea Creek Middle School in Thousand Oaks, CA.  For her Bat Mitzvah project, Alexandra developed a book called, "A Jewish Girl's Guide to a Bat Mitzvah".  This book helps girls learn about possible Bat Mitzvah projects and read about projects other girls have already completed.  The idea came to her as she was trying to determine her own Bat Mitzvah project because it was difficult for her to decide which of the many causes to support.  Instead, she chose to write a book to help other girls choose their own Bat Mitzvah projects by highlighting the stories of individual girl's projects.

All of the proceeds of the book are being donated to Vista Del Mar, a home for children who do not have families.  Alexandra plans to use the proceeds to help the girls there (who cannot afford to have Bat Mitzvah celebrations) have the opportunity to have a Bat Mitzvah.

Best thing about giving back to the community: "I think the best thing about giving back to the community is the impact that you have on someone's life.  By helping someone have a Bat Mitzvah, you are making a huge impact on the rest of their life."

Three things to bring with you to a deserted island: "It depends.  On one hand, I would bring practical things like food, water and clothing.  However, I would also bring fun things to keep me preoccupied like books to read, a notebook to write in and a microphone to sing into.  Also, since I'm Jewish, I would also use natural materials on the island like leaves and wood to build a Sukkah for shelter."
