Hebrew Free Burial Association

March 2011

Organization:
 Hebrew Free Burial Association

Mission:
Hebrew Free Burial Association (HFBA) devotes its resources to performing chesed shel emet (the ultimate act of lovingkindness - the deceased who are unable to repay the kindness).  It is the only agency in the greater New York metropolitan area dedicated to assuring that every Jew, regardless of financial means or religious affiliation, receives a dignified, traditional Jewish funeral and burial.

Organization Description:
Hebrew Free Burial Association works to ensure that every Jewish person receives a proper and dignified Jewish funeral and burial.  We handle all aspects of the funeral and burial, and everything is done according to Jewish law.  In addition, HFBA maintains its two cemeteries, Silver Lake Cemetery and Mount Richmond Cemetery.  Even in death, everyone needs to be treated with dignity.  HFBA also does outreach to the Jewish community, speaking at synagogues, schools, social service agencies, etc..., teaching about Chesed Shel Emet and the importance of Jewish burials.

Fun Fact: Over 1,000 students volunteer annually in HFBA's Cemetery Clean-Up Project at Silver Lake Cemetery.

How Can I Help?
HFBA is always appreciative of the support that we receive from the community.  While financial support is obviously helpful, there are other ways to get involved.  By volunteering in our midtown office or arranging a group of volunteers to participate in our Cemetery Clean-Up Project, you're demonstrating that there are many ways to help.
