Ryan Meltzer

Ryan Meltzer is a 15 year old student from Holliston, MA. In 2007 Ryan placed 3rd in Areyvut and JVibe’s Bnai Mitzvah Essay Contest with his essay entitled “Making Connections”. For his Bar Mitzvah project Ryan became a Jewish Family Services of Metrowest Volunteer where he visited with the elderly residents of Farm Pond Assisted Living Facility on a monthly basis. Ryan along with his friends led Shabbat services and organized holiday celebrations. He was also highly involved with Kesher 13, a program for teens and their parents to connect with the elderly members of their community. Ryan incorporated the feeling of giving back into his Bar Mitzvah celebration. The bima (altar) from which he read the Torah portion was decorated with food that was later donated to Lucy and Lucy and Joe’s Food Pantry which supplies people who are elderly with food.
