2006 Essay Contest Winners

Areyvut is proud to announce the winners of its third annual Bnai Mitzvah Essay Contest. While all of the entrants described creative and meaningful tzedakah projects that can serve as models for future Bnai Mitzvah celebrants, four winners were selected. Areyvut congratulates the following students on their winning essays:

First Prize:
Daniel and Lauren Deitch of Hidden Hills, CA, who wrote a book about their grandparents experience in the holocaust


 
 
Second Prize:
Cheli Arussy of Livingston, NJ who volunteered and raised money for Yad Sarah in Israel.

 
 
 
 
Third Prize:
Timor Balaish of Rye, NY, who sold bracelets to raise money for Yad Sarah in Israel  
 
 
 
We would also like to recognize all of the other finalists:
Rachel Klein of Louisville, KY who will be going to makeup counters, beauty salons, and nail salons to collect samples and overstocks to donate to the teenage girls at Maryhurst.
 
Leora Margelovich of Teaneck, NJ who cooked and baked 130 stuffed cabbages, 50 meatballs, 4 dozen frosted cupcakes and 4 cakes for Shelter Our Sisters.
 
Julie Solomon of Bryn Mawr, PA who donated her hair to Locks of Love and refurbished the garden in the residential home where her uncle, Scott Solomon, lived before he passed away by adding new flowers and benches.

We once again acknowledge Karen Klieger, who interned at Areyvut in 2004 who was instrumental in bringing this contest to fruition. Additionally, we would like to thank the expert panel of judges who gave of their time and helped us determine the winners.
