Bandages of Hope Project

Thursday, April 30, 2009

Shira Kitay is a student at the Martin J. Gottlieb Day School in Jacksonville, FL.  She is currently working on the Bandages of Hope project and would like to get all involved.  Click here for Official Contest Rules and information.

The importance of "Tzedakah," giving charity and "Tikkun Olam," repairing the world are central themes in my education.  As my Bat Mitzvah approaches, to fulfill my role in becoming a Jewish woman, I will create, with the help of a community of children, an adhesive bandage design that gives children hope for the future.

I love bandages that are fun, cheerful and creative.  My intention is to use Bandages of Hope as a bridge between children, cultures and perhaps even from sickness to health.  My wish is that these bandages bring sick children a sense of hope, and help bring about a positive change, physical and emotional.  Even if the bandage only brings a smile to the face of a child battling an illness, I believe we would have performed a "Mitzvah," a good deed.

I will donate these bandages to Wolfson Children's Hospital here in Jacksonville, Florida and to the pediatric wing of Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel during my trip there this summer.

Together we can repair the world, one bandage at a time!
