Areyvut joins the nation in mourning the tragic deaths and devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina and in offering our sympathies to those who face the long and difficult task of rebuilding. Several agencies have established humanitarian relief funds to aid members of the Jewish and general communities touched by Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, the Western Florida panhandle and other affected areas.
This is a humanitarian crisis, and just as we responded to the tsunami tragedy, we cannot silently stand by in the wake of such devastation. Our Jewish tradition and the values of caring and tikkun olam that guide our work call on us to help all people in need.
