Background: Project Dignity is a multidisciplinary team of professionals who work for free, with the aim of helping people in Buenos Aires, Argentina who having lost their work, are now excluded from society. They assist them with their occupational and social reintegration, including interest-free loans to start new businesses.
Upon the impact of the 2001 crises, the Jewish community in Argentina, made up of 250,000 middle-class citizens became part of the "new poor" class. Over 50% lost their jobs or businesses, with no prospects or for future employment in place.
By the end of 2002, 25 % of Jews had fallen below the poverty line. As a result of this, shops closed, professionals such as architects, lawyers and even doctors became unemployed.
Project Dignity was born as a proactive response to the hard reality that so many Argentina people are facing because of being excluded from the labor market and, as a consequence, from the Jewish social life.
Their Mission: To give DIGNITY back to our brothers through generating a place where they can recover their hope and real prospects for a life in which they can achieve their potential. Dignity awakens their forgotten skills and moves towards self-employment.
Programs: To achieve this, a multidisciplinary team of professionals work for free to assist them with their occupational and social reintegration.
With interest-free loans from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand, people are able to get back on their feet, create an income sufficient to provide for the daily needs of their family, and create jobs for the community.
They provide:
Interest free loans
Job placement
Emotional support
Counseling
Training seminars
