Middle Schoolers at Yavneh Academy in Paramus, NJ are required to dedicate a certain amount of hours every school year to chesed and social action. To assist them in this process, Areyvut attended the Yavneh Academy Chesed Fair on January 8th 2007. Students from Yavneh Academy walked around the gym where 18 different volunteer organizations displayed how each student can make a difference with their particular organization. In the meanitime, parents listened to a short presentation on “Creating Kind Kids Today” given by Rabbi Knapp and Dr. Frolich. When students came to the Areyvut table, they were shocked to learn that they could do anything their heart desires when it comes to chesed. All they need is a little passion and some time, anyone can make a difference. After 2½ hours of students coming up with new ways of how they can make the world a better place, Areyvut left the fair having inspired over 300 students and parents.
Other organizations that participated in the fair include AMIT, Baby Gemach, Bears from Bergenfield, Chai Lifeline, EMUNAH, Friendship Circle, Hebrew Free Burial Association, JCC on the Palisades, Kol Kehilasainu, OHEL, One Family, Project EZRAH, Sharsheret, Tomchei Shabbos, UJA, Yachad and YPAA.
