On April 5, 2006 Areyvut Founder & Director Daniel Rothner spoke to a sociology class
at Stern College for Women in New York. Daniel asked students to think about what they value in their lives and what they would like to improve in the world. He explained that the goal of Areyvut is to help Bnai Mitzvah students expand their values and improve the world. Areyvut does this by working with each student to create an individualized project based on the student’s interests.
Knowing that the class had been discussing the tragic genocide in Darfur, Daniel spoke about Sarita Rosenstock, a student from Princeton, NJ who won Areyvut’s 2005 Bnai Mitzvah Essay Contest. Rosenstock created an organization called Raising Awareness Destination: Darfur (RAD:D). She taught her fellow community members about the genocide and created a letter writing campaign to congress.
Daniel also with the class about Areyvut’s “A Kindness a Day” calendar. He explained to the students that each day there was an act of kindness suggested that they could incorporate into their daily lives. At the conclusion of his presentation, Daniel gave each student a calendar.
Daniel mentioned to the class that Areyvut was always looking for interns who feel passionate about Areyvut’s mission. Elissa Siev, a student in the class, found the presentation interesting and the work that Areyvut does meaningful. It was because of Daniel’s lecture to her sociology class that Elissa became a summer intern for Areyvut.
