SAR Chesed Project

On June 14, Areyvut developed and implemented the annual chesed project in memory of Zack Meller, whose sister is a student at SAR Academy in Riverdale, NY. A group of about 80 second grader students at SAR Academy first viewed a presentation about Beit Elazraki, a group home for neglected and abused children in Israel, who will be the recipients of the chesed project.

After the presentation, the second grade students were partnered up with a fellow classmate, and with the assistance of an Areyvut staff member, began to decorate beach bags. Once the bags were completed the students filled them with summer goodies, including beach balls, visors and yo-yos for the children of Beit Elazraki. Each student then had the chance to make a card and write personal notes to the children of Beit Elazraki.

These bags are going to the children of Beit Elazraki who are going to camp, but don't have the means to buy items that are useful for the summer. Many of the children put their contact information on the letters in hopes of cultivating a relationship with the children of Beit Elazraki.

The event was lots of fun and a huge success as the 2nd graders were able to learn the importance of chesed and apply their knowledge by participating in a wonderful project in remembrance of Zack Meller.
