“Make a Difference” Day – April 8th, 2005
On "Make a Difference" Day, schools, synagogues, families and community organizations joined Areyvut in dedicating the day to helping others. Inspired by Areyvut's "A Kindness a Day Calendar: 365 Ways to Make a Difference," which offers 365 ideas to incorporatetikkun olam into everyday life, students, educators and families from across the United States, Canada, and countries as far away as South Africa, turned words into action with the help of educational resources developed by Areyvut. Synagogues, schools, and organizations extended the activities throughout the weekend so that everyone was able to participate in this event.
Areyvut staff worked with educators and communal professionals to develop activities for this special day that could be adapted to a variety of settings. This educational material included ideas that were suitable for participants who ranged from young children through adults, with an emphasis on middle and high school students.

With the help of Areyvut, a number of day and congregational schools came up with creative ways to make a difference in their communities. One day school in Florida sponsored a food drive for the local Jewish Community and Family Services food pantry, while a congregational school in New York City put together “goodie baskets” with accompanying notes for children at the Ronald McDonald House.

We have received an enormous amount of positive feedback from excited teachers, students, parents, and other community members. We would like to thank everyone who participated in making this day a huge success.
