Do The 'Rite' Thing: On the Path to Your Rite of Passage

Looking for a fun and rewarding way to begin your bar or bat mitzvah experience? Join students from all over Manhattan to learn about all kinds of unique mitzvah and chesed projects to add even more meaning to your celebration, and at the same time, help others less fortunate and in need. Experience interesting community and social service opportunities, and even fulfill a Bnai Mitzvah project requirement. Our themes will include Bikkur Cholim (visiting the sick), literacy and tolerance. Students will meet as a group one Sunday every month and several other times throughout the fall. The program is co-facilitated by Matthew Lacks, Director of 'Tween Programs at the JCC in Manhattan.

The Meaning in Bar/Bat Mitzvah

From donating your dress, to writing stories and cards to children in hospitals, there are countless ways to enhance your family's bar/bat mitzvah experience through social action. Join Jayne Cohen and Lori Weinrott, co-authors of The Ultimate Bar/Bat Mitzvah Celebration Book, and Daniel Rothner, Founder and Director of Areyvut, for a lively evening of fresh ideas to infuse meaning, mitzvah, and fun into your celebration. Both parents and 'tweens are welcome. The program is co-sponsored by The Jewish Community Center in Manhattan.

Celebrate Good Times

From delivering packages, visiting the elderly in hospitals, to inviting guests, social action provides countless ways to enhance your family's holiday celebrations, bar/bat mitzvahs and other special occasions. We have collected a variety of innovative, easy, and meaningful ideas about how to incorporate important mitzvot into the holidays. This program is presented by Daniel Rothner, Founder and Director of Areyvut.
