Over the past several months, Areyvut has acted as a consultant for the 7th Grade Teen Philanthropy Program at the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale, NY. Under the leadership of Rabbi Uri Topolosky, this program teaches its participants about Jewish communal life while offering students an opportunity to feel ownership over a real-life tzedakah experience. After several consultations with Areyvut, Rabbi Topolosky has initiated a program that is motivating, informative, and hands-on. Rabbi Topolosky hopes that the Teen Philanthropy Program will give the participants a Hebrew School experience which allows them to become active in the Jewish community, rather than just thinking about it. Areyvut is proud to play a role in developing this exciting program.
On November 7th, Areyvut enjoyed the opportunity to meet with students at the onset of their exciting program to discuss ways of achieving both personal and group goals. Students studied traditional Jewish texts that helped deepen their understanding of the importance of chesed, tzedakah, and tikkun olam. With the help of Areyvut staff, program participants devised a list of potential service projects that they were passionate about and realized that one is never too young to have a positive impact on the world. They learned about fundraising, grant writing and other practicalities of executing a service project. Students left the program feeling empowered to become actively engaged in programs that reach out to others. Areyvut looks forward to supporting students from the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale as they channel their positive energy into action and walk away realizing that they can make a difference in their community.
