On February 15th, Areyvut joined the seventh grade students at Hebrew Academy of Nassau County (HANC) Middle School to celebrate the school’s first Communication Day. Planned in conjunction with the school’s Social Work Department, the event addressed the importance of interacting with others in a positive way.
Areyvut developed three stations that enabled students to reach out to others. At the first station, students worked to improve relationships within the school community by creating an advertising campaign for shmirat halashon (guarding ones tongue). At the second station, students donated their time and energy to brightening the lives of those less fortunate by creating birthday cards to be distributed to elderly and disadvantaged youth through the Jewish Board of Family Services. Finally, students had the opportunity to create their own art projects to be donated to a recipient or agency of their choice. Each student received a copy of the “A Kindness a Day Calendar: 365 Ways to Make a Difference” as a way to increase their chesed through communication.
