The Yeshiva of Flatbush Joel Braverman High School Tzedakah Commission, under the guidance of Rabbi Jeremy Spierer, is responsible for distributing all tzedakah funds collected from Yeshiva of Flatbush students. During the 2003-04 school year, the commission allocated over $45,000 to more than 40 different organizations. Areyvut acted as a consultant to the Tzedakah Commission throughout the year and was asked to present suggestions to improve the commission's process for evaluating and selecting tzedakah recipients. On May 13th, Areyvut staff met with commission members and faculty advisors to discuss ways to enhance the commission's allocation methods. Students were introduced to professional grant allocation techniques, including issuing a Request for Proposals to find worthy causes in need of funds. Areyvut looks forward to continuing its work with the Yeshiva of Flatbush Tzedakah Commission over the upcoming year.
