In recent months, Areyvut has reached out to Jewish educators and community lay leaders across the country by participating in a number of presentations and conferences. These events offer Areyvut an ideal opportunity to share its mission, ideas and programs with Jewish communal leaders while learning about advancements in the field of Jewish education.
On September 9th, Areyvut moderated a session at the Jewish Educational Service of North America's (JESNA) Center for Excellence in Congregational Education in New York, NY entitled Cutting Edge and Beyond: Implementing the Vision. The session addressed the practical challenges of making educational visions into reality, with a large focus on the resource and organization that a community needs to support innovation and vision.
On November 11th, Areyvut met with educators at the Board of Jewish Education of Greater New York's Israel Berman In-service Day, which took place at HAFTR Elementary School in Cedarhurst, NY. Areyvut gave a presentation entitled Bar/Bat Mitzvah Projects to Enhance the Experience that offered 5th-7th grade educators and administrators innovative and meaningful ideas of how to incorporate tikkun olam and social service into their middle school curriculum.
Areyvut also participated in the Partnership for Excellence in Jewish Education's (PEJE) Donor & Leadership Assembly in Boston, MA in October and the United Jewish Communities General Assembly in Cleveland, OH in November. Areyvut's presence at these important conferences enabled its staff to meet informally with Jewish lay leaders and participate in a number of significant discussions on education, social action and the Jewish community.
Another highlight of the past few months was Areyvut's first participation in a Celebrate Party Showcase, held at the Westchester Marriott Hotel in November. Areyvut joined fifty other professionals who displayed their party planning programs and products to parents and students. Areyvut enjoyed the opportunity to meet informally with dozens of Bnai Mitzvah families to discuss potential Bnai Mitzvah projects with them, as well as representatives from other organizations and businesses who were displaying their goods and services. Areyvut hopes to participate in similar events in upcoming months.
Jewish Council on Urban Affairs (IL)
On April 11th, the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs held a conference in Chicago, IL. entitled “Justice Shall Dwell There: Strengthening the Jewish Commitment to Justice in our Cities.” This national conference brought together Jewish social justice activists and leaders from across the country for two days of sharing best practices, dialoguing about ways to implement social justice work in Jewish settings and planning for collaboration on issues of common concern. Areyvut was invited to attend and moderated a session on the topic of “Jewish Youth Organizing.” The staff of Areyvut conducted an interactive workshop with the purpose of discussing programs that engage teens in activism and tikkun olam. Areyvut enjoyed the opportunity to work with other organizations toward a common goal of inspiring chesed and social justice.
Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education (NY)
Areyvut participated in the CAJE Day School and Early Childhood Conference EXPO on June 19th -22nd at St. John’s University in Queens, NY. CAJE, a national organization that works to promote excellence in Jewish education across the spectrum of Jewish life, holds its annual conference for day school and early childhood educators to learn from one another. The EXPO, a conference highlight, provides educators from across the Jewish ideological spectrum the opportunity to discover, search and shop for educational tools and services. Areyvut was proud to have a booth at this exciting event to publicize its mission and enjoyed the opportunity to hold informal consultations with educators, teachers, principals, administrators and other interested visitors.
