BETH HILLEL CONGREGATION BNEI EMUNAH (IL)

On December 11th, Areyvut’s founder and director Daniel Rothner joined over 300 Beth Hillel Congregation Bnai Emunah community members in making good deeds a central focus of their day as part of the congregation’s annual Mitzvah Day celebration.

Offering motivational words to the community’s adults and students, Daniel set the tone for a meaningful day of tikkun olam. He inspired over 75 Men’s Club members to incorporate small acts of kindness into their everyday lives by sharing several anecdotes where simple actions had resounding impact on the lives of those involved. Daniel then met with the third to eighth grade students in the congregation’s Hebrew school to explore ways that everyday objects, such as a can opener, blankets, toothpaste and a football, can be used in acts of chesed.

Community members put Daniel’s ideas into action by participating in a full day of community service. Activities included a youth choir performance at a local geriatric center, visits with the elderly, ill, and people with disabilities, the creation of gifts and cards for children in need and the compilation of letters speaking out against atrocities around the world. In addition, all participants received copies of Areyvut’s “A Kindness a Day Calendar: 365 Ways to Make a Difference so that they could make each and every day into their personal Mitzvah Day.

Areyvut would like to thank Sheila Gideon, Rabbi Michael Mishkin and Heidi Massey for inviting us to participate in this memorable event.
