Daniel Rothner: Founder and Director
Prior to starting Areyvut, Daniel taught Judaic studies at the HAFTR and Heschel Middle Schools, where he developed and implemented a variety of chesed and tzedakah projects and programs. He has taught ethics, halakha (Jewish law), and Tanakh (Bible) in synagogues and workplaces. Daniel serves as a Board Member for Tzedakah, Inc. and is a member of the Orthodox Caucus Plenum.
Daniel earned a BA in Jewish Studies from Yeshiva University, and an MA in Modern Jewish History from the Bernard Revel Graduate School. He received a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from Loyola University, and Principal Certification from the Jewish Educational Leadership Institute in Chicago.
Shira Hammerman: Special Project Coordinator
Shira Hammerman, a Wexner Fellow, is a doctoral student in Jewish Studies and Education at New York University. She has taught fourth grade at the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester and Hannah Senesh Community Day School. Shira has devoted time to expanding her experience in education as an intern at JESNA, Museum of Jewish Heritage, and Edah.
Shira earned a dual undergraduate degree in Political Science and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. She went on to earn an MS in Elementary Education from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania.
Shiri Bernstein: Marketing and Outreach Coordinator
Shiri Bernstein is a recent graduate from San Diego State University where she got her B.A in Business with an emphasis in Marketing. Shiri taught first and seventh grade Judaic Studies at Temple Emanu-El in San Diego. She previously has had experience working for USY on Wheels, KOACH on campus and Machaneh Givah in upstate New York. Shiri started with Areyvut in 2006 as a summer intern and joined our staff full time in January 2007.
Sarah Baer: Intern
Sarah Baer is a sophomore at Rutgers University. She is part of the Rutgers Hillel and is active in its community service activities. Sarah attended Frisch Yeshiva High School and Midreshet Lindenbaum, a women’s seminary in Jerusalem. In the past she has worked for Friends of the IDF and other Israel based chesed organizations. Through this internship she hopes to use her creativity and passion for tikkun olam.
Jessica Berger: Intern
Jessica is currently a junior at the University of Kentucky, where she is studying Management and Marketing. She has had previous experience in non-profit Jewish work as an intern for the Central Kentucky Jewish Federation where her main focus was to organize Tikkun Lexington’s 2006 “Day of Giving”. She is also an active member of Alpha Kappa Psi—the Business Fraternity, as well as a member of Hillel at the University of Kentucky, where she serves as secretary. Jessica is very excited to intern with Areyvut because it allows her to use her past non-profit experience to help her contribute to Jewish communities across the country.
